Objects and Goal
The University of Rostock and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Hanoi, Vietnam) have agreed on a study program for the award of a so-called double degree. The study program provides for studies at the home university in the first and second semesters. In the third and fourth semesters, students spend time abroad at the host university.
Requirements
In order to obtain the double degree, students must fulfill the requirements set out in the current version of the double degree agreement between the two universities. These can be found on the pages of the University of Rostock and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Applications should be presented at the exchange agreement coordinator of the home university in the period established for each teaching term. The home university will pre-select the candidates to participate in the programme. Applications need to be approved by the hosting university. Students will be admitted to both master programmes, according to each university’s prevailing admission criteria and the corresponding regulations. Both institutions agree that only students having sufficient scientific, personal, and language skills will be selected.
HUST offers its study programme in English and Vietnamese. UR offers its study program in English and German. Candidates must provide evidence of knowledge of English language of the advanced level (B2 - TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, TELC, UNICertII, TOEIC) in the respective medium of tuition of the host institution.
By the end of the 2nd Semester, participating students must provide evidence of knowledge of English language of the advanced level B2 (speaking) offered by the university (e.g. elective course) or by external companies (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, TELC, UNICertII, TOEIC).
In compliance with the provisions of the examination regulations of the partners, the partners issue the students with a certificate confirming that they have passed the final examination, a certificate confirming the award of the academic degree and an English-language Diploma Supplement. The certificate is usually issued by both universities.
Tuitioh and Financial Matters
UR and HUST follow their national policies and regulations for tuition fees. During the exchange semester, tuition fees are waived at both the home and host universities. Enrollment fees are paid at both the home and host institutions if required by the institution's regulations. At UR, international students pay the enrollment fee (not the same as a tuition fee!) like all German students, which includes a contribution to the student parliament and a semester ticket for public transportation in Rostock. There are a limited number of scholarships available for German and Vietnamese students. Students must apply through the RoHan website. Please check the webpage.
Information about the study program
In the first two semesters, the focus is on the home university. The modules are carried out in the respective home countries. The contents of the main modules (especially regarding recognition) are coordinated with the respective German and Vietnamese colleagues. The main lectures at the University of Rostock are held in the respective language (German).
In the third and fourth semesters, the focus is on the exchange with the partner university. The thematic focus is in the field of sustainability/sustainable chemistry. The studies in the third semester focus on the introduction to challenging scientific research work as well as on the further deepening of the study contents. The fourth semester is dedicated to the preparation of the master thesis on a current scientific topic in the field of sustainability.
The special elective modules are offered in English, with courses in Rostock (for Vietnamese) and in Vietnam (for Germans). In Rostock, but also in Hanoi, the modules are mandatory for scholarship holders and optional for all other students.
