Double Degree Master
the Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät of the University of Rostock
the School of Chemical Engineering of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology
Coordinator HUST: Prof. Le Minh Thang
Coordinatur UR: Dr. Dirk Hollmann/Prof. Udo Kragl
The University of Rostock and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Hanoi, Vietnam) have agreed on a study program on the assignment of a so-called double degree. In the first and second semester, the study program provides for studies at the home university. In the third and fourth semesters, students spend time abroad at the host university.
In order to obtain the double degree, the students must fulfill the requirements as stated in the valid version of the Double-Degree-Agreement between the two universities which can be find in the end of this webpage and on the webpages of the University of Rostock and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
After passing the final examination, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Rostock awards the University Degree Master of Science (M.Sc.), the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi, awards the University Degree Master of Science (M.Sc.).
The partners issue to the students, in compliance with the provisions of the examination regulations of the partners, a certificate confirming the successful completion of the final examination, a certificate confirming the award of the academic degree and an English-language Diploma Supplement. The certificate, the diploma and the diploma supplement of the partners are to be combined in such a way that it is clear that it concerns the assessment and the completion of only one study program. As a rule, the certificate should be issued at the university where the first enrollment took place.
Applications should be presented at the exchange agreement coordinator of the home university in the period established for each teaching term. The home university will pre-select the candidates to participate in the programme. Applications need to be approved by the hosting university. Students will be admitted to both master programmes, according to each university’s prevailing admission criteria and the corresponding regulations. Both institutions agree that only students having sufficient scientific, personal, and language skills will be selected.
HUST offers its study programme in English and Vietnamese. UR offers its study program in English and German. Candidates must provide evidence of knowledge of English language of the advanced level (B2 - TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, TELC, UNICertII, TOEIC) in the respective medium of tuition of the host institution.
By the end of the 2nd Semester, participating students must provide evidence of knowledge of English language of the advanced level C1 offered by the university (e.g. elective course) or by external companies (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, TELC, UNICertII, TOEIC).
Tuition and Financial Matters
UR and HUST will follow their national policies and regulations regarding tuition fees. During the exchange semester the tuition fees are waved in their home and host institution. Registration fees will be paid at both the home and the host institution when required by the institution regulations. At UR, international students will, like all German students, pay the registration fee (not equivalent to a tuition fee!), which includes a contribution to the student parliament and a semester ticket for public transportation in Rostock. The amount of registration fees to be confirmed every year.
Limited amount of scholarships are available for German and Vietnamese students. Students have to apply via the RoHan Webpage. Please check the calls.
Information about the course of studies
The main focus of the first two semesters is at the home university. The modules will carried out in the respective home countries. The contents of the main modules (especially regarding the recognition) have been coordinated with the respective German and Vietnamese colleagues. The main lectures are held in the respective language (German/Vietnamese).
The focus of the third and fourth semesters is the exchange with the partner university. The thematic focus is in the area of sustainability/sustainable chemistry. The studies in the third semester concentrates on introducing the students to challenging scientific research work as well as further in-depth specialization. The fourth semester is devoted to the preparation of the master's thesis on a current scientific topic in the field of sustainability.
The special modules in the elective (compulsory) area are offered in English, with courses in Rostock (for Vietnamese) and in Vietnam (for Germans). In Rostock, but also in Hanoi, the modules are compulsory for scholarship holders and optional for all other students.
Detailed information about HUST and ECTS are found in the Double-Degree-Agreement at the end of the webpage.
